Cookbook Survivor: Rose Carrini, Breakfast Lunch Tea: The Many Little Meals of Rose Bakery
Sunday's Child Is Bonny and Blithe
I picked this off the shelf because I realized I’d never used it before. I think my spouse picked it up in a bookstore 15 years ago because she liked the look of it and it never really registered with me.
It’s tied to a bakery in Paris that I’ve never visited, and the book is honestly more about the bakery, in a perfectly charming way, than it is the recipes. A lot of the recipes are incredibly straightforward, so I’m using this just to organize myself for a tea-time around 4, with a few savory tarts and a few sweet tarts. I’ll make the sweet tart dough this morning and use some premade puff pastry for the savory. My daughter’s home on spring break so it seems like a nice thing to do before the Oscars tonight, which is a Big Deal for 2/3 of my household.
I mostly relate to the Oscars by focusing on how ridiculously wrong they frequently are and by hoping for something interestingly stupid to come up during the actual broadcast, like a dance number for a movie about the Holocaust. Mostly the show’s gotten too careful for that sort of thing but there’s still interesting unplanned drama like last year’s Smith-Rock dustup.
