My trust in public health was deeply eroded by the whole, "Masks won't help" line we were all given early in the pandemic, which seemed blatantly counterintuitive and sowed the seeds for distrust further out. I know officials were trying to make the best decisions in the moment, but lying to the public was not a good look or good choice.
