I really liked the landscapes in Gothic III. Not the best game, but very epic and lush and lived-in. Also Everquest, if you remember that, because every place you go is a real place, where you spend serious time, often with friends.
Well, yes, some of those Everquest raids were indeed SERIOUS time. There's a reason people started talking about hardcore power guilds as poop-sockers.
A friend and I were discussing our time in EQ lately, and how it was a game that actively punished you for playing it! But that only made it more addictive somehow.
